Help Corp Tax Problem

I have recently taken on a new client who incorporated in May 05 but didn't start trading until October 05 when they bought an existing retail business. However I have only just found out they haven't told HMRC they were liable to corporation tax as from October 05.
Do I just fill out the CT41G or should I write to the revenue explaining the client didn't realise they had to do this due to the fact this is their first business and the previous accountant was useless to say the least :x
Eternally grateful for any comments and advice
