i've cross-posted this, i know... sorry.

I've been looking into self-employment and came across these 2 franchises. I've heard of both of them before (TaxAssist more than CerTax) and wondered if anyone here has any experience of them. They seem to offer training, which would be handy since i'm only at intermediate/tech level, but have no problem with training from them. Could be ideal for me - own business, but not own business.
Does anyone know if you have to have a particlar amount of experience or set qualifications to start with? Obv you also need to put a lot of money in, but thats a different question altogether.

have a look at the discussion forum on www.accountingweb.co.uk someone has posted there within the (about) last month and got some interesting answers.

I have taken a couple of clients from Tax Assist, but never crossed paths with Certax.

Be careful about how much the franchise costs you - upfront fees, high street rents etc etc.

Be very careful - without being too incriminating. I have just purchased the client base of a 'mentioned franchise'. They charge crazy amounts initally and then a % of your fee income but do not have a good name on the high street!

Best to start out on your own - as an MIP you get an excellent support telephone line which is all that the head office for the franchise gives.

I have gone out on my own rather than taking over the franchise and would highly recommend it.
