Going for a Payroll Job ....

Hello, just wanted a bit of advice ... I have an interview this week for a job in a payroll department, I put on my application that I'm doing AAT intermediate but I am now wondering how, in an interview, I can apply AAT in accounting to a payroll position? I'm thinking it may almost count against me as they might just think I want to be an accountant eventually and that my studying isn't applicable to a payroll position?

Hope this makes sense! Could anyone offer any ideas?

    I don't think it would necessarily go against you - it shows your commitment and you could also look at doing the payroll part of AAT as well (though I don't know how you would go about doing that).

    Moreso, because you are doing the AAT accounting you could say that you are doing it so you have a more broader knowledge of accounts related issues - therefore giving you more strings to your bow and refer to the option of doing the AAT payroll qualification.

    Thanks very much for your reply. That is a really good idea to say that I want to gain a broader knowledge of accounts related issues. Bring on the interview ....!
