Sounds interesting...!
Is it time for a siesta yet? I need a snooze. Chasing after J yesterday was obviously too much for me!
:shock:0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Hi Paul,
I did that a few years ago. You are allowed to change your mind. That is the point of the interview for me, I have to be happy with what I will be doing, it is a two way thing. Is this you or your lovely lady?0 -

Yes! I had an interview on a Saturday morning and they brought round the contact that evening!
I wasn't sure and needed to think about it. In the end I turned it down. They weren't happy, because they cancelled the other interviews for the following week - but I never actually accepted it, because I needed to keep my options open.
The job was great - it was as company secretary and accountant, but the person leaving had already set up the systems and I wouldn't have had any challenges.

Re:Study Buddy
Its me, I have had a voicemail for an interview I attended last week, asking me to call, so I dont know whether it will be an offer, although usually if its a rejection you get a letter dont you.
Its a good role, but Its the same money Im on now, but I thought initially the experience I would gain in this position would be good. As its only temp til the end of the year, it is ideal to as my lady will be moving in September more than likely. But since I have thought about it, and it will cost me a hundred pound a month in petrol, as opposed to me current place being in walking distance. So really with everything chucked in, I need two grand more than they are offering to even consider after thinking for a few days!! I have to call them back at twelve though AARRGGHH!!!!!!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Don't worry!
I've turned down more than one job - and as Mandy says, both parties have to want it!
One company got quite nasty - left messages on my mobile demanding to know why I wasn't accepting.
I obviously made the right decision!

Re:Study Buddy
Well thats it. All Im going to say is (if it is an offer) that after going through it with my partner, I cant afford to take on a drop in salary, which it will ultimately be. Im just nervous because Ive never done it before, and obviously I told them I was still interested at the end of the interview. Sometimes though, you need time to think it all through!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Totally agree. I've left interviews thinking it would be the perfect job, but then things change.
A good lesson in letting the dust settle on any major decision!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Well it was an offer. Apparently, she was very impressed with what I had to offer (not the first time ive heard that
) 0 -

How was it left then Paul? Did you ask for more money then? You never know, if you impressed them that much then they could slip in a few ΓΒ£k nore???0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I just said that with the extra travel cost of 100 pound a month, I couldnt afford to move for the same salary, but I was very polite, and she thanked me. She did ask me when she offered it me
'how does that offer strike you"
So you never know but its a big ask I think.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Sounds like there is room for negotiation here. She may go back to her boss or whoever, let them know and you may get another phone call with an improved offer. Never give up hope!!!

Re:Study Buddy
Im not particularly hoping, I mean I would consider if the offer came back and the money was right, but Im not too fussed.
Still, at least I know in future I am well set if I get a female interviewer lol

Nothing like a spot of generalisation, mixed with a pinch of sexism...0 -
Re:Study Buddy
or a spot of harmless humour.. cant see how thats sexist Hel! :?0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Congrats on the offer anyway!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Cheers Gem. Hows things with you?!0 -
Re:Study Buddy
I know the figure I need to reconsider, but its 2k more than the original salary offer.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Better to pay the extra than have someone unsuitable do the job.
You never know...0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Hey maybe. Its a great role to. Some of the stuff Im doing now, like purchase ledger. But she said only a couple of days a week. The rest of the time is spent on weekly management accounts, and monthly financial accounts, so its varied.0 -
Re:Study Buddy
It does sound interesting.
Fingers crossed...0 -
Re:Study BuddyPaul22 wrote:I know the figure I need to reconsider, but its 2k more than the original salary offer.
I would expect another phone call within a couple of days. ΓΒ£2k is nothing to a company - they make that overnight on interest... and then some!
I don't know whether I told you before, can't remember, but the guy who I trained to do my job when I left to go to this place, well he wanted another job and I got him a place at my work...
we offered him the job, he signed the contract and he was 1 week off leaving. The manager realised they would be screwed as there was no-onebetter suited to do the job than him (at the time.. obviously I was better
) Anyway, they came back to him and offered him another ΓΒ£3k. So dont give up that hope. 0 -
Re:Study Buddy
Fair enough. I suppose when you look at it like that, you never know!! Depends how impressed they really were I suppose0 -
