Help with P46

I joined the company that I now work for in August 06. I had not received my P45 from my previous employer so filled out a P46. At the time our payroll was contracted out to a payroll company. I have just taken over it and have noticed that they didn't send my P46 off and as a result I am still on a WK 1 / Month 1 code. Is it too late to send off my P46 or to enter my P45 details (not sure I know where it is). Dont know what to do and dont want to carry on paying too much tax and ni. Please help!

    Hi Gina

    Its not too late to send off the P46, however, as you have had previous employment in this tax year, you will still be on a week one code until HMRC process the form and get back to your employer. If you can find you P45, then it will be better to use that.

    Also, I have found that if you use HMRC's online filing service to submit Forms P45 and P46 you get a much quicker response (usually within about 1-2 weeks).

    Thanks for that Tom. I am going to try the online P46 option. We get paid on the 20th of each month so plenty of time for a reply.
