For all you members in practice out there I have a question....
where do you source your information from, in that I mean who do you ring if you have accounting treatment queries or tax or VAT queries? The reason I ask is that a lot of resources have been quoted and I'm just interested in what variety of sources people use.

Re:Further knowledge
I have found accountingweb very useful as an accounting community site - their any questions forum is a good source of answers for accounting treatment queries. Also they have some excellent articles on software reviews and advice generally.0 -
Re:Further knowledge
There is just so much of it out there now its hard to keep up but essentially my resources are:-
IRIS
(for financial reporting, keeping on top of the FRS's SSAP's IAS's FRSSE etc.)
Accountingweb
Accountancy age
(news updates, articles on practice management, law etc.)
Taxationweb
Tax.org
(news updates and developmets etc.)
Tax tips & articles
(nice little publications always trying to get "one up" on government)
Accounting Technician mag
Taxation mag
HMRC
CPD courses
Workshops
I think the list is endless....

Re:Further knowledge
add to the list the chroner helpline and I *love* Tolly's tax guide (issued free to members of ATT).
I also refer back to text books and notes from AAT and ATT study days regularly
And I've kept in touch with ex-work colleagues who I call when I get really stuck!0 -
Re:Further knowledge
Most of the ones that I use have already been covered - but also
http://www.vatease.co.uk.htm
is good to keep up to date with VAT changes, rulings etc. They do a free monthly newsletter which is always well worth a read.
Dean - is your tax tips and articles one specific website, or just general "a bloke down the pub told me....." bits of info?

Yeah vatease is good too.
Tax tips isn't a website (although it does have a website that sells it along with other publications)it's a fortnightly publication. I find it really useful especially for limited companies when extracting money etc.

Re:Further knowledge
Dean - IRIS, how does this keep you uptodate with IAS, etc. Sorry to sound dense, took a look on their site but couldn't find updates, do you mean their 2 hour workshops - I am interested as I am wondering whether to update textbooks, a bit reluctant to do that if there are updates available for DFS.0 -
Re:Further knowledge
Hi Salisbury
What I mean by IRIS is that I use their Final Accounts Production software and with the way they group their nominals etc. I can be confident that my reports comply with the Compaines Act 1985 and meets all the accounting standards.
IRIS have a team dedicated to reviewing and updating their "enhanced chart of accounts".
I think they have been one of the best if not the best software provider for this.... closely followed by sage's final accounts software.
