Total lack of motivation

I was so fired up last year and never missed a class and was really on top of things but this year I got back to college and just suffered a complete lack of motivation. Some of it I think is due to me getting an accounts job and them not giving me any holiday so I have come back to college not having had a break for a year. And some of it is that I now feel trapped, I'm stuck in the accounting field now I guess and I'm not sure I like it. It is so utterly boring in Practice and I am not really figure minded.

Just don't know what to do to get the keeness back, especially as we are just a few weeks away from exams and I feel like I am way behind :(

You just have to snap out of it, if its what you want to achieve.

Sounds like it might be your job that is the problem more than the whole career of accountancy - there are all sorts of jobs and places to work for people qualified to AAT level. I work for a charity for example and its very interesting and varied and worthwhile (ok so its still a job but I like it).

Best get your qualifications done especially as you have worked hard to get to tech level now they won't do you any harm even if you change career.

    Hope that helps.

I know how you feel. Every few weeks I wonder if all this is leading to anything, if there is some kind of reward for all this effort. It is harder to summon the energy to do any work for college, and I find myself less motivated to delve more deeply into the subject matter. All I can do is ride it out over the course of the following days.

I have tried to look for other jobs, but being part way through the AAT seems to put people off.

Someone put it to me when I said I was struggling to get the work done through lack of motivation, all that matters if whether you really want it. You can need the qualification, and you can like the idea of having it, but you will only work if you really want it!
So I realised all the time I was sitting thinking about the work I was not doing, and moaning to people about lack of motivation, could be spent just getting stuck in.
Theres no point in thinking about it, you either want it or you dont. Simple choice. If you want it you work, if you dont want it - dont bother !

If you are finding the job boring ask for different work to do.

I remember when I did Technician I went through a period where I wouldn't study. It was because I was in a state of panic. I kept avoid my classes and never studied at home. Then I had to ask myself whether or not I wanted to pass? I decided I did and then I worked hard. Even if you decide Accounts is not for you later on. You may as well work hard and PASS this exam. I have recently been offered a job in Practice. I thought it was because I had started to study ACCA, but no it was because of AAT!!

Try to take annual leave to cope with the study

    Good luck, you can pass

    Re:Total lack of motivation

I am so pleased to hear that other people feel like this to, my new job is much more accounts based and I now feel like all I do is think about accounting. My college classes have finished so I am now doing distance learning and am finding it so hard to get into. Does any one have any tips?
