Exams in December

 I can't believe in one months time we will have finished the first lot of our exams!!! I'm doing PEV and Personal Tax - more fool me!!! We haven't even got our books yet!! The college has done a block order for all of us getting learner support funds and they haven't arrived yet - maybe tomorrow  !! I'm getting rather scared as although we have been given notes in class it's not the same as working through the book doing all the activities etc. I just hope I can get enough time to study in the next few weeks (as a Mum of two, holding down a job - studying is the last thing I want to do at 9pm when everything else is sorted!!) If anyone has got any good ideas on how to remember everything it would be most appreciated!!

Re:Exams in December
Sarah
I'm in the same boat as you as well as a full time student (studying NVQ 2 & 3 Payroll, Intermediate AAT, Personal & Business Tax & trying to get Unit 10 Project under my belt!!) I'm a mum to 2 Primary Children & working part-time from home book-keeping.
We only got our text books for Personal Tax last week & I started working through them today. It certainly does make things alot clearer & there are plenty of excercises, & practice exam papers to go through. I think if I work through these & the papers on the website I should be ok but it is certainly daunting!! I'm sitting NVQ2 Payroll & Personal Tax this time around & we've got to do our Reports & Returns Skills test (4hrs!!) the week before!
I think the most unnerving thing is that we haven't finished the syllabus yet & there's less than a month to go - not like last summer when I had plenty of time to got through past papers for PLB!! Atleast I have more confidence now as that was my first exam in 20years!!
Fingers crossed & Good Luck !!

Re:Exams in December
Thanks for your reply!
Just as I was leaving college yesterday I was pulled in to be given my books
At last I can work through them! Although we've been sent the wrong personal tax ones  (for exams next year!!) but it's better than nothing!! I'm hoping things will come together and become clearer as I go through them! :? We got our 2nd practise exam yesterday and I think that's the best way to learn because you find out what areas you need to do work on! They are quite daunting at the moment but with more practise I think it will go alright. I seem to remember feeling the same way before most of the exams in the summer!! It's just finding the time to do the revision!!! Am taking most of the week off just before the exams so hopefully that will be enough time to do all the cramming I can!!
Good Luck!!
Thanks, Sarah

Re:Exams in December
Sarah
I have two of the BPP books for personal tax which are really good and for this years exams. I live in Bedfordshire, if you want I am quite happy to post it to you or maybe deliver it.
The one thing that I will say is section one is pretty simple once you have all the rules in your head. Write them down and just keep going over them in your head. It makes the practice questions easier to manage. However, I am really struggling with section 2 so if you have any tip on how to remember the matching rules etc for share and securities I would really appreciate it.

Re:Exams in December
I've an (almost) complete set of notes on PTC here which might be of some help.
Not sure I've any tips on the matching rules as such. I just remember
1: Day of purchase,
2: 30 days after
3: Work back through the rest til the magic date of 6/4/98
4: Share pool time
