Dear all,
I have several requests for, shall we say, for the more learned ones of you out there..pretty please!
1. those of you that have completed tech level, could you bullet point the syllabus..feel as though I'm being earged 'by the gods' it seems, to carry on AAT, then do CIMA after but seems awfully long way off and am hating cost accounting at the mo!
2. also have an i/v at accountants (tomorrow!) and am thinking ACA or ACCA would be better career choice..am I right in thinking these are more financial accounting orientated and more relevant to the work I'd actually be doing? short notice thru agy so dont have a job spec...could you shed some light?
Thanks and any comments are much appreciated!
Kam

I'm afraid I don't know anything about technician but yeah aca and acca are financial accounting courses rather than management0 -

Hi
Have a look at the link below:-
http://www.aat.org.uk/centres/display/store4/item378/#atechnician
It depends which route you are doing which determines the units, but on the NVQ stage you have to do:-
PCR (Planning and controlling resources
PEV (Performance and enhancement of value)
DFS (Drafting Financial statements)
and the Managing People Project
You then have to choose 2 of the following:-
Personal Tax (Exam)
Business Tax (Exam)
Audit (skills test)
Cash Management (skills test)
Don't know anything about going any further, Technician was enough for me, but if you are going on you need to look carefully at what optionals you do.
Best of luck with whatever you chose.

Re:sound career advice...pleeeasethen do CIMA after but seems awfully long way off and am hating cost accounting at the mo!
I can't offer much in the way of career advice as I'm only a little 'ahead' of you. What I will say is that I enjoyed the cost/management accounting more towards the end of Intermediate unit 6- investment appraisals and so on. I also found that Technician units 8&9 were more engaging areas of costing/management accounting. I wouldn't write off management accounting until you've seen the Technician level units. I hated it at first, but have recently got into the analytical side.
The NVQ accounting units break down:
PEV - Management of Performance and Enhancement of Value - 'Management Accounts II'- Standard Costing and Performance Indicators
PCR - Planning and Control of Resources - 'Management Accounts III'- Budget preparation, flexing and analysis
DFS - Drafting Financial Statements - 'Financial Accounting III' - Like Maintaining Financial Records, only more so!
MSAP - Managing Accounting Systems and People - 'The Project' - explain how would you improve your accounts departments
And any two of:
PTC - Personal Taxation - income tax etc
BTC - Business Taxation - corporation tax etc
IAP - Implement Audit Procedures - being an auditor's assistant
CMCC - Cash Management and Credit Control - cash budgets and getting money from debtors

About going beyond AAT, I am doing techincian, but I want to go on, but I have not made up my mind.
If I was you, I would not make a decision until you are closer to finishing AAT.
Also, I would talk to your friend and family. Also your employer may have a prefered course.
