Hi everyone
I will be sitting the DFS exam in two weeks, and I am revisiing past papers - should i still revise the ones before june 2006 as they have a lot of old terminology in them and i have found them to be quite confusing? Should i stick to revising the June 2006 paper?
Thanks
Becky

Re:Practise DFS Exams
Hi Becky,
My tutor is giving us past papers from June 2004 to the present one June 2006 to study.
I think it works in a way that you get a better understand of the transfer from the old standards to the new.
Also it was mentioned in the IAS Masterclass, that students will not be marked down for using old titles such as Debtors, Creditors and Profit and Loss Account for the first three to four exams.
Cheers

Re:Practise DFS Exams
I'm using all the papers I can get my hands on. Although the account names have changed - e.g. sales to revenue - the question formats are still relatively the same and worth doing!
How are you both feeling? Confident? Nervous? It's only just started to come together for me so I'm now feeling much more confident about it...
Best of luck!

Re:Practise DFS Exams
Same for me, it's all starting to fall into place now. I went to my class last night and was starting to answer the practice questions with ease rather than having the usual memory block.
My confidence now is at a all time high and I'm actually looking forward to the exam.
If I fail it will be a shock, but this is the first time of sitting this exam, so I have prepared myself just in case I do fail.

Re:Practise DFS Exams
Hopefully I will have your confidence by the end of this weekend. My revision is nearly there but my theory is a bit sketchy and for me I can do all the calculations but I want it to flow more easily. Past papers will help. I wasn't going to look at any pre June 2006 as I thought it would confuse me but I have just glanced at one and you can adapt them fairly easily so I may just at least look at the calculations. I'm running out of new things to do so it may help thanks.

PS Roll on the exam I can't wait to be done - although DFS is ok actually.0 -
Re:Practise DFS Exams
Thanks everyone this is helpful - i will continue with the old papers then. To be honest i am finding it a nightmare - the tutor we have at college is useless he still hasn't finished teaching the course yet so no wonder i dont have a clue about the exams. I am trying to get as many papers done as i can now in the next 12 days!!
Thanks

Re:Practise DFS Exams
Which college do you attend? My tutor finished DFS two weeks ago and we have been doing past papers and going through parts we are stuck on.
My college it Tamworth & Lichfield College, funny enough we were discussing other colleges last night and how there is one college inperticular that the tutors don't arrange the lessons themselves, it's all done for them and they have to keep to a time schedule, which leaves no time for students to be able question the tutor about parts they don't understand, so the tutor can stop the lesson and re explain in plain English, it's just a case of I'll get back to you on that later, and they don't, but if they do it's too late.
For past papers the AAT website is your best bet, that's where I get all mine, including Support Booklets and Guidance Notes.
Good Luck

Re:Practise DFS Exams
My college is Reading College - he is planning to finish the consolidated balance sheets next tuesday with only one week till exams! Its just a joke, he has provided us with one past paper for revision and i dont suppose he will give us any more!
I have read and studyied consolidated balance sheets last week so i have finished the course myself as i couldnt wait for him to do it. I am going to keep my printer busy later and print all the papers for the past two years so i will have plenty to do over the weeked!

Re:Practise DFS Exams
Sounds to me like he doesn't put his lessons together himself either.
I wish you all the best with your revision and another BIG "GOOD LUCK" in your exam!
