Hi everyone,

I am trying to teach myself activity based costing as our tutor hasn't covered it yet (even tho the MAC exam is next week!)

I can't seem to get my head around it, all I can think of is variances and ratios!!

Please could someone explain in to me I am panicking that it will be on the exam and I don't know it.

Also my college group have been told that there is now a pass rate rather than having to show competence in all sections - does anyone know if this is true?

Thanks,
Angela

ABC may crop up but I would expect that on a 3hr MAC paper very little time would be allocated to it. It is not one of the key topics so do not expect a big numerical calculation.
It is an alternative way of charging overheads into product cost. Generally, low volume products tend to have higher overheads charged to them under ABC.

variances and ratios are the central topics

I can't confirm the pass mark point. To the best of my knowledge I think that the paper will be marked as a whole, but I don't know with certainty.

The specimen exam had 2 sections (first section on budgeting, second section on variances and then ratios/cost management) I would expect a similar format next week.

    Re:Activity Based Costing?!?!

Thanks Sandy that's a great help.

We seem to have done ratios and production budgets to death but there are quite a few minor areas we haven't covered yet so I am trying to make a few notes on those myself.

Some people from my college group attended your PEV/PCR revision class recently and they showed us a paper you wrote that covered everything.

Is is possible you could email it to me on a_m_hill@hotmail.co.uk

    Thanks
