Hi All
I was just wondering if any one else is as annoyed as me with the mistakes that are in the Unit 5 Study Text/Workbook.
I'm doing distance learning and its really difficult to learn something when the book is wrong. :x

Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
If it's any consolation, my books from BPP are pretty useless, too! Good luck for the exams!0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
yeah, it is really frustrating. Our tutor set us a practice exam from the back of the book, but the trial balance is impossible has a 'transposition error' in one of the numbers it uses. The TB only balances if the error is in it. Grrr! Its something like, "Bank £2969" in the question, but the answer has "Bank £2696"!!0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
I am studying FRA with FTC kaplan and I haven't even looked at the textbook. I have just been revising what we did on the revsion course and past papers. I just know I am going to fail.

They expect you to do a lot of work as well as holding down a full time job. If the textbook is full of mistakes it is just going to make it so much harder on all of us.
Anyway, good luck to everyone for FRA>
Yours,

Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
There is a *lot* of work involved - much more than they let on at the start, and that's before the projects (which i haven't even started yet, i just can't face it!
)
I can only hope next year will better.
Good luck all, best wishes for tomorrow!

Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
I ordered a book from FTC for unit 15 and it had mostly the exact same questions as BPP. I did this because there weren't enough examples in the BPP book and I failed the skills test. I am studing with BPP and the mistakes are terrible. Also some of the script isn't thorough enough for the AAT exam if you write an essay.
I have just sat ECR this week and I strongly recommend you purchase an alternative text book to use at the last stages of your revision (not just for ECR). I have had a look through some of the text book comments on this section of the site and Osborne books seem to be recommended.
I hope this helps.0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
After taking both ECR and FRA exams this week i am
because i found both the BPP study materials had discrepencies. Here is the two things i found:
ECR - BPP Revision book says Internal Rate of Return, it briefly explains it yet in the exam they wanted a full explanation and for us to work out the costing using this method, i had not learned this as the book states "you will not be asked to explain this in detail" << false as they did ask.
FRA - Scrap units of stock was not explained in the BPP revision home study course i had. Ended up deducting it from the closing stock and inputting it minus the scrap into the BS & PL.
Not happy with this.0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
The ECR exam wanted you to make a recommendation about whether to accept the proposed project or not - you didn't need to calculate anything. It was simply based on the information given in the question, ie the payback period and I think the NPV if my memory serves me correctly...0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
The problem with making a recomendation is that you need to explain how you came to your conclusion, i think it did ask for a full explanation of this method, if my memory serves me correctly. This should have been explained fully in the revision material. Still i said that it should be accepted based on the fact that using IRR the NBV results in a 0 balance at the end of its life
problem is i couldnt explain it in more detail. Anyhow only a small part of the exam and im happy witht he rest of it! 0 -
Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
I just sat ECR and FRA with FTC Kaplan. FRA was a "resit" as I missed the June exam. I don't remember there being many errors in the FRA text but the ECR text is heaving with them. Even in the answers to example questions which is particularly irritating.
Our ECR teacher also gave us printed notes which were brilliant - the course was divvied up into neat units which all made sense, eventually... (well, I thought they did - I'll find out in Feb!)

Re:FTC Kaplan - FRA
I take back what i said on the IRR, it did not ask for a full explanation which i had thought it did. I jist misconstrued the information.
I really wanted to do my studying with FTC but unfortunately doing it through work had to go with BPP, FTC were very nice and hands on whereas i havent really ever spoken to BPP!
