VAT Registration with Low Turnover

I have a new client who sells ink cartridges. He has a turnover of less than £20,000. Can he register for VAT voluntarily?

    Who does he sell to? If it is all trade then it is worth his while voluntarily registering for VAT, however if a proportion of sales are to Jo Public, then it might well not be financially sensible to do so.

    You would need to do some calculations for him based on his profit margin/mark up to see if it was worthwhile.
