Could someone tell me why on task 1.1 b we work out the defective amount of materials before we have taken off the opening stock and added closing stock to total materials?

    Hi, You work out the defective (wastage) for the number of units being produced. This is to give you the materials in square metres needed for production. This is for the quantity of material required and hence why opening and closing stocks (also in square metres) is then adjusted for. Hope this helps. Good Luck with the exam on Thursday.
