Im looking to study chartered ACA/ACCA after my AAT technician. Although I only need 4 compulsary units and 2 optional which is 6 units to pass the tech level Im aware that i get excemptions when I start chartered.
If I was to do the additional optional units would I be liable for more excemptions when starting chartered or is it just the same as if I wouldve passed tech level with the 6 units.

Re:Question regarding AAT technician to chartered
It depends which optional units you are taking. Check with ICAEW which units you need to take for the exemptions.
This is going back quite a while now but having passed technician level I then sat an additional optional unit as this gave me exemption from further exams. From memory I chose Audit and Taxation units and I had to sit an additional Management unit for the exemption. I am sure the syllabus has changed many times since then though.
Also a little tip: (again, check that the rules are still the same with ICAEW) but it used to be the case that the ICAEW Final Admitting Exam (or case study) could only be sat in the final year of your training contract. For those doing AAT fast-track that meant you could pass all the exams in 2 years but not be able to sit the FAE until year 3 which is a nightmare because all the study you do for your final exams is needed for the FAE.
If you start your training contract in, say, April then your second exam sitting will actually be in the beginning of the 3rd year of your training contract.
Hope that makes sense!0 -
