Hiya.
I'm just finishing up Intermediate on NVQ route but I was thinking of switching to the Diploma route for my final Technician/Diploma year as there is no portfolio needed.
Has anyone else done this? Is it a bad idea to switch?
Thanks.

Re:Advice please. NVQ or Diploma?
Hi there Nicki
I changed colleges for the final year and this has meant switching from NVQ to diploma.
I'm not sure what portfolio needs to be done for NVQ level 4 we were encouraged to complete this at level 2 when the work load was much less.
One advantage I have found doing diploma is no skills tests!! The only one we have to do is personal ethics, I think if I was studying NVQ still we would have to sit skills tests for the exams we have just taken.
There may be some more information on here somewhere regarding the tests but I think that is the only difference for the final year.

Hi Nicki
I'm on the diploma pathway too. I think it depends on:
a/ Whether you work in accounting.
b/ If you prefer exams or course work.
The Diploma Pathway has minimal skills tests and coursework and is basically exam tested. This may be better if you do not work in accounting and find it difficult to provide evidence via your job. You may also prefer just to sit the exams.
Personally, I prefer it - but just double check with your tutor - I wont finish AAT until 6 months after the NVQ students at my centre (even though we all started together), because of the different timetables of the papers. There are also no past papers to look at.
Good Luck, whatever you choose.

I'm doing the NVQ (have been since Foundation) and you've just described my Technician level!0 -

There are skills tests at Diploma stage, but as with NVQ Technician stage, the number (if any) you have to do will be dependent on options. At the final stage of either NVQ or Diploma route there is a skills tets or an exam for each unit, not both.
