Examination Conditions

Can anyone tell me if there are standards that "Approved Exam Centres" have to adhere to when hosting exam sittings?

This week, our class have been subjected to two exam sittings, PEV and DFS.

The sittings were held in an old assembly/theatre type hall with a high ceiling and no heating.
It was obvious that there was heating available and that at some stage the decision had been made, (or action ommitted)that resulted in the heating not being turned on prior to our exam.
The circumstances were commented on by the Ivigilating Staff who were suprised at the temperature.

As a consequence we were all uneccessarily and uncomfortably cold both during and when we left the exam.

I am under no illusion that performances were hampered as towards the end of the session it was painfull to hold a pen, let alone form coherent thought.

During our second exam we were subjected to nearly 15 minutes of shouting from an adjacent room, to which no Invigilator action was taken to remedy the situation. Although the temperature in the room had improved "slightly" we were now informed that we were not allowed to wear coats in the examination room as they were "expecting an inspection". Needless to say the inspection never came, a shame really as if it had occured during Mondays session, I'm sure some action would have to have been sought to improve the conditions under which we were expected to produce a Technician Level performance.

Many hours of study have been invested by students to reach this level of excellence and it is disappointing that "Approved" exam centres are allowed to provide such shabby circumstances for candidates to sit exams.

Surely exam centres are obliged to provide a standard level of both light and heat condusive to a successfull performance by the exam candidate.

If any AAT moderators are watching the message boards, an official reply would be appreciated.

This sounds terrible you should not have to put up with these conditions especially when you are under tremendous pressure anyway. In my exam the invigilators checked your I.D. prior to the exam commencing then the I.D. was checked a further two times during the exam. At one point an invigilator came over to my table placed an A4 sheet ontop of my exam paper that I was reading, to fill a box in with my name on it. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I folded my arms and sat back watching in disbelief. We are under so much pressure why do room conditions and invigilators have to add to this. This happened last time to a number of students and a complaint was put into the college but obviously nothing has happened. Don't the invigilators appreciate how hard it is to undertake the exams let alone bother us in the middle of it.

I have to say in all fairness that once our ID had been checked our invigilators had the common sense to beleive that if no one had entered or left the room our identities had remained the same!!!

I can't beleive that conduct is acceptable as it clearly breaks your concentration.

Perhaps the AAT would like to make the standards for "Approved Exam Centres" public knowledge so that we know if our service providers are actually providing a decent service.
