New legislation for lorry drivers - 1st April - is it a joke?

Has anyone heard about changes to legislation which affect the hours a driver can work in any week?

Apart from the tacho restrictions, someone has mentioned that there is new EU legislation which comes into force this April.

    That'll push prices of ALL stocks of ALL items up pretty soon after that comes into force - is it a government ploy to create mroe driving jobs by limiting how many a driver can do?
    I think it's a good idea to prevent careless driving whilst tired btu I also think it's a huge kick in the nads for the truck drivers of now.
    My grandad drove lorries for 45 years and retired 5 years ago this year, he loved it, he said he liked nothing more than driving his 'Artic' over Europe. If he was still driving them now I think he would be mighty peeved.

    There'll come a time soon when the government will restrict us from using air!

    Thanks - but I haven't received any notification of this and am awaiting a response from Dept of Transport.

    I'm responsible for several lorries and their drivers, so need to know!

    New legislation comes in on 11th April. Below are extracts for our company so I expect you will hear officially soon.

    "Drivers hours must not exceed a 48 hour average over 26 weeks (if relevant agreement is made with the workforce, otherwise over a minimum 17 weeks). The maximum in any one week is 60 hours, however hours must be paid back over the agreed relevant period. There a limit for night workers, 10 hours maximum although this can be extended with a collective or workforce agreement."

    What is the change then? These appear to be the same rules as came in last year :?

    It doesn't change anything for me - unless there's something in the small print.

    Our drivers are well under the limits.
