oh my giddy aunt

I have just gone through bpp's chapter on company accounts - have studied their example and attempted their question - all i can say is: what the hell am i letting myself in for?!

by looking hard i have managed to understand where the figures have come from, but what a higgledy piggedly mess it seems to me.

there are two figures that appear to have come from nowhere though, which is stopping me from drawing a line under it, so im hoping one of you will have the same book as me and be able to enlighten me:

my book is bpp, for assessments in 2006, and the figure in question is 700,000 - this figure is given on page 67 in the approach/suggested solution under section f
in order to work out the final ordinary dividend of £16,000, you need to add the 700,000 to the 100,000 then multiply by 2p per share - i understand that ok, but where on earth did the 700,000 come from in the first place, as there is no figure in the data. ???????

my second query relates to task 3.4 and the retained earnings figure, for which the answer on page 281 states that ordinary shares are 28,000, but again, i cannot find how or why it is 28,000 - only possible explanation i have is that its a typo and should be 25,000, as the workings in the bank a/c on page 279 have a figure of 25,000 for ordinary dividends.

hope someone can help, that is if you can understand what the hell im going on about!!

kind regards to all!
