I completed a Partnership Tax Return and two individual Tax Returns for a small business in September. They paid their bill and I left them to send off the Tax Returns (at their request).
They telephone me today to ask whether they need to be in by 31st January!

Now they tell me that they can't find one of the Tax Returns - yes now at 3.30 on the 31st January - so can I quickly do another one! I will finish sometime today.0 -
Re:You Can't Help Some People!
 i've not had any like that (one advantage of filing online
) but i have had 2 clients on the phone both saying 'you've worked my tax out wrong - I already pay my NI by direct debit, why are you telling me to pay more?' ... 0 -

You guys out there in Practice world are so brave.
I seriously do not know how you deal with people like that.
When I was in practice and they handed their carrier bags in - full of rubbish stuck together with goodness knows what - I just wanted to shred it all!
Luckily I soon realised I was in the wrong job!

Helen - I just think back to the time when I had a new client come over - he's just opened a garage & had done some work on my car & I'd agreed to do his books. We sat down & i was trying to explain the concept of 'profit' and he couldn't grasp it at all - the simplest of examples made no sense to him.
When he was leaving I pointed out that the number plate he'd got me for my car was yellow but i needed a white one - he rolled his eyes at me and peeled back the yellow sticky-plastic off my lovely white number plate!!
it's a good thing he's the one fixing cars & i'm the one doing the accounts!!0 -

Oh and I have another client, who despite being in business for over 10 years now, still can't understand why he has to pay tax - well he "does already pay PAYE every month and VAT"!0
