Hi all
I am now deciding what to progress onto when finishing AAT. Acca or Cima
does anybody know what excemptions you get on each course with obtaining AAT technican and if so does it matter what option units you take? do they play a part in what exemptions you get from ACCA or CIMA?
I was having a heated discussion about this at my evening class and was wondering what it actually was.
Also which is best CIMA or ACCA?? i work doing all the accounts to management accounts for a construction company
Many Thanks

Re:Exemptions
Hi,
I have just started CIMA and fingers crossed, if I pass my December exams I will sit these exams in May.
You will be exempt from the whole certificate level of CIMA.
I think ACCA you need to do the tax papers in AAT, but I am not 100% sure. Sorry
Anyway hope this helps 8)0 -
Re:Exemptions
so just to clear up an argument i was havinf, even if i did auditing and cash management on AAT i would still have to do tax on CIMA and ACCA doing tax on AAT wouldnt exempt me from those would it? :?0 -
Re:Exemptions
No matter what papers you take you will be exempt from the first level of ACCA (3 papers) however the syllabus will change in Dec 07 and I'm not sure of the exemptions then but I can't believe it will be any less.
Taking tax AAT options will help you in your tax paper but it doesn't matter which papers you take. I would suggest that the cash and credit management was probably the paper that helped me the least. I did that and the 2 tax options and definitely had the edge on the tax paper for ACCA.

Re:Exemptions
Hi
To follow on from Annette/Bluewednesday, the same applies to CIMA. What ever options you do at AAT the exemptions are the same. If you have done business tax and cash management at AAT you will be at an adavantage with CIMA's P7.

Re:Exemptions
Hi
Both cover the same core topics but CIMA covers more on management accounting and business management and less on tax and audit. ACCA covers more of tax and audit but less of management accounting and business management processes.

Re:Exemptions
So in a nutshell:
CIMA = reporting, etc
ACCA = number crunching
ACCA it is for me then!!
I'd rather stab my eyes out with a fork than go thru variances again :? when i was told they were part of CIMA, but even more analysis, that was when i made my final decision!!0 -
Re:Exemptions
well i failed PEV today so if and when i finally pass it looks like ACCA for me to i so have a block when it comes to job costing took me 4 attempts at intermediate old standards i so hate variences then they decuide to put it into new standards as well on technician!!!
I so hate job costing!!!0 -
Re:Exemptions
Unfortunately you do have variances in ACCA as well! I was also told by a lecturer (ACCA qualified) that ACCA looks at them from the technical/calculatory side of things whereas CIMA expands more onto the discursive issues. However, that was under ACCA's old syllabus and they have since expanded their performance measurement content.
If its any consolation at the profesional level, although things can more dificult, the way variances are covered (in CIMA at least) isnt just about the calculations. They also cover more interpretation into what a variance can mean for a business how they can be used for performance management. At least this way you can see waht variances measure and how they work, which could make them more understandable.0 -

i think costing is here to haunt me for life then
