Hi,

What is the turn around on having tests, assignments, skills test and portfolios returned from your distance learning provider? Last autumn all my work for assignments for foundation was turned around very fast but the skills test are still not back 2 months later :(
I am now doing Intermediate and my second test was sent in 9 days ago. Maybe I am a little impatient but I intend to sit both ECR and FRA in June (my tutor is aware of this) so I cannot hang around with my studies.I have another test ready to send in but I would rather see the previous one back first :!:

I completed a skills test & sent it in at the beginning of september and actually only received it back today!!
Don't know if this is typical as this is the first one that I have done.

    Hi

I did distance learning for all but a revision course for a technician exam, I've also trained as an NVQ assesor. Any college/centre that take much more than 2 to 3 weeks to return a piece of work isnt/isnt capable of doing there job properly. Also, some colleges come up with an excuse around exam time that they are busy helping students with prep for their exams. That may well be, but who is to say that completing a skills test is any less important than completing an exam?

I am in the same boat, having started Intermediate distance learning (FTC Kaplan) this year and intend to sit unit 5 and unit 6 in June.

My provider says that they will "provide some feedback within 2 weeks of receipt", supplimentary evidence may be requested and must be provided within one month.

Out of curiosity, which unit have you finished already!?

    Hi Neil

Great to see that the forum gets responses from people like yourself. Perhaps you know the answer to my query too . . . how/ can a comnination of sim. and WBE be submitted? Re. Unit 5.1 I can gather evidence for most of the performance criteria and range statement, but my job doesn't really touch depreciable assets; could I do a sim. on just the relevant area?

    Hi

I belive you would just submit the required evidence together with your SIM. You would probably need to discuss what is suitable with your tuition provider.

    Re:Distance Learning Students

    Hi Mondo,

Monday morning and still no tests results :(
The two (out of the three) tests I have done are short tests which are set throughout Unit 5. By the end of this week I hope to be ready to do the assignment which covers the whole of Unit 5 and if that is okay I shall do the FRA skills test.
I am working very hard fitting studies in around work and family life, and I really need to keep to schedule,if I find ECR difficult I may need more time for that unit. This is the reason I would like a much faster return on my work.
Incidentally, I am in business and if I am very busy and am unable to turn work around within an acceptable time frame, I make my clients aware of the fact :!:

    Re:Distance Learning Students

At eagle (on homestudy) we get our feedback from assignments and assessments within two weeks. We are not allowed to sit another assessment until we've had feedback so it's a good job we don't have to wait for ages. I'd be impatient too if I had to wait as long as some people. we have our own tutor too, I agree It probably depends on the tutor you get too.

    Feedback
I completed my AAT NVQ Foundation level via distance learning (NEC) a few years ago and had a very good turn around of under two weeks. Like Blue we were not allowed to send another assessment until feedback from the previous was recieved.

If there was going to be a delay ie holidays our tutor notified us in plenty of time. As we were encouraged to estimate when we would be sending our next assessment (and thus plan our study timetable) we were also expected to contact the tutor if there was going to be a delay in sending our next assessment..ie holiday or family problems.

As well as the marked assessment, I was also sent an answer sheet detailing where I went wrong, so I would say feedback was excellent.

Intermediate level was not so good (different tutor & provider), so last year I abandonded my lonely struggles and have gone day release with its instant feedback.

If you are expecting feedback within a set time-frame and you do not get it, contact your tutor for a status update. As any long-distance student knows the importance of keeping back-up copies, it is easy to forward another copy of your answers if it has got lost in the post. After a month without an adequate response from your tutor I would suggest contacting the distance learning providor you are using.

Good luck to everyone sitting exams in June. :)
