Internal & External Audit

Please can someone advise me....can an external auditor also be an internal auditor?

My thought is that they cant be as there is then a bias as you are already being paid to audit your own work, and also you are not an independent assessor

Any thoughts?

    You can be an internal auditor and an external auditor for a seperate companies but not the same one. This would not happen as you have to get an independant person to audit books of a company. This person has to have no connections with the company apart from obviously being the auditor
