I am a lecturer on AAT Payroll and it is really very easy. Remember you will be given all the rates of the different NI contributions in the examination and on the tables, it states the levels in £ of LEL, ET & UEL. You have to now be able to calculate the NI, not use tables.
With regard to which NI table to use, I always advise my class to remember this table
A B
D E
F G
The first column are what I term "normal employees" and the second column are for "wives and widows" in the reduced scheme. Excuse the term but they are "begging" a pension from their husbands NI contributions!
Across the rows are:
First row no Occupational Pension (possibly a stakeholder or private pension)
Second row COMSR scheme
Third row COMPS scheme
Note the last leter of COMSR & COMPS - R comes before S for sequence in the table
Be also aware of the codes for retired employees and also those earning over UEL - again all given to you in the NI rate grids
Good luck in the exams
