Has anyone done the verabl presentation for unit 6 yet?

I have been given the following assignment.

"You are a member of the accounting team of McGarry Hamilton & Co and are shortly due to attend an important accounting meeting.

The agenda has been set as follows:
1. Apologies
2. Sales forecasts
3. Debtor situation
4. Stockholding situation
5. Supplier problems/difficulties
6. Cash flow forecasts
7. Capital investment - two projects to consider

You are required to report ( in the form of a verbal presentation) on at least two of the above items 2 to 7 above."

I have do a verbal presentation which lasts at least 5 minutes.

Does anyone have any ideas what I can do it on?

Many Thanks :?:

    Hiya

I am doing unit 6 at mo, we had a skills test a few weeks ago on costing but have another in May, I wonder if this is the one we have to do. I didn't realise we had verbal tests!

Do you have any copmany info given to you?I am guessing you do,

I would maybe talk about debtors- i.e if they are high how you can reduce the debtor days/ plus either cash flow- reduce overheads-consider invoice discounting if appropriate. I would pick a subject that you feel comfortable with and that is slightly taxing.

    Hope this helps,

    Sarah :)

I sat the Unit 6 test today and my supervisor had to sign a form and write a letter (I think) saying that I could "make recommendations verbally" - not sure on what mind - but I didn't see anything about having to do a talk about it. Hope I don't have to lol. Isn't the test enough?

We had a written simulation, I've never heard of a verbal one.

If I was to choose from your list I would take 3. debtor situation and 5. Supplier problems/difficulties.

    Debtor situation ie
Debtors Total - higher or lower than last year & reasons such as new bulk customer in last month of financial year.
Aged Debtors - is it taking longer to get money - is any debtor looking like they are going to default (doubtful debts)- Should the company review credit control policies.
    Are sales increasing?

    Supplier problems including
Stock control issues ie lead time on delivery increased/decreased.
Stock reorder level - decrease or decrease.
    Has the supplier costs risen?

Include how they are impacting on profit

Can you use overhead projection or give handouts? Then you can refer the team to the graphs, spreadsheet etc for clarification.

    When giving the report have:-
    - an introduction of 1 minute or less on what you are going to talk about. Including a request that they wait until the end before asking question.
    - A middle with all the data. (2.5 -3 min) Avoid being negative. (We have a potential problem here but we are/I suggest doing this to prevent it.)
    - And an closing to summarise (30 sec - 1 min)
    - Then ask for questions.

Write your report out and then practice. Verbal presentations are all about planning - what you are going to say and how you do it.

    You will be fine.
