Sage and self-employment

I've just finished my intermediate stage, and have experience in practice (although it was a while ago), but can remember a fair bit of it.
If i was to take a (refresher) course in Sage, and use Excel too since i know it well enough to do linking pages and profit/loss/balance sheet, is that enough to offer my services as self-employed?
Obviously, i would have to limit my services to basic bookkeeping stuff - maybe supplement it with some admin, word processing, etc??
I'm having real trouble getting a job after leaving a big4, and would love to work for myself, if i can.

I would say that as long as you're confident in your own abilities there is no reason why you shouldn't go self employed.0 -

Check with some of your local accountancy firms. They may know of some business that would might be looking for a self-employed book-keeper.
Check your local phone book for competition and contact them. They might have some leads for you.
Good luck.0
