hi all

Journals!

It will not sink in at all however much I read, it just doesn't click with me!

How silly is that? :(

I just get completely confused as to what accounts I need to DR and CR, what amounts, basically everything!

I have got my self in a right tiss and what with the exam in June I'm just stressing.

Can anyone help and advise as to how I should reapproach this subject please?

Anything will be of help as I have completely lost the plot with this section and I am probably making myself think that its harder than it actually is!!!!

    Try these acronyms:
    PEARLS

    Purchases
    Expenses These are Debits
    Assets
    Revenue
    Liabilities These are Credits
    Sales

    DEADCLIC

    DEBIT
    expenses
    assets
    drawings
    CREDIT
    liabilities
    income
    capital

    ALICE always helps me

    A - Assets (Dr)
    L - Liabilities (Cr)
    I - Income (Cr)
    C - Capital (Cr)
    E - Expenses (Dr)

    So basically the 1st & last letter are Debits, the rest are credits. Hope this helps

    Thank you all for your advice its a great help and I will put them into practice.

    But please please keep the advice coming every little bit will help.

    Oh yeah I've now stoped rocking silently in the corner now!!!!!! :oops:

    I am still so worried about the exam though, it's been a long time since I've sat one and I am still so scared that I am going to go completly blank :?

    fleurdelee, what do you call a long time? I took my last A level on 11th June 1976 and my first Sim for AAT in December 2002, now that's a long time!

    I used a similar method to Ann Marie
    I learned one side of the double entry, for example a payment to a supplier: I know that a payment is a credit from the bank, therefore the debit must be to the Purchase Ledger Control Account and the Subsidiary Supplier Account.

    It was harder fro me as I had spent years working in a bank so every thing was the wrong way round - bit like driving a car abroad!

    Early 90's was the last time I sat an exam so no not as long as you but it still feels like an eternity :(

    I know I just have to confident and positive and not to doubt my answers :(

    I GET IT!!!!!!!!!

    Finaly I have cracked journals, oh my I am so happy, thanks everyone for your advice and hints they have helped.

    I just went over everything to do with journals again very slowly and I get it!

    Last exam I did was early 90's. Trick is to work thru as many past questions as possible UNDER EXAM CONDITIONS!! Dont fret, u can make it. :wink:
