Interim tax refunds for CIS deductions?

Can anyone shed light on this one....

Can a sub contractor claim back CIS tax deducted throughout the year? I have deducted the tax from his CIS payments for PAYE but he has had an £8,000 deduction made this month, as a result of an error last December. Is there any way of claiming back this amount other than through his PAYE payments? (it would take months that way!)

His accountant told him that he thought !it could only be done at the year end - but he says he has heard that he can claim back before.

I cant seem to find any conclusive evidence of this - I have not called HMRC yet as any advice on AAT forums is always more understandable!

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/new-cis/cis340.pdf

Page 9 only mentions it annually, but there might be other options.

I would write to HMRC with all the details. You are much more likely to get an informative answer by letter than the call centre.
