Can anyone help?

I know the law has changed recently with regard to the treatement of computers for private use.
I understand that if your employee provides you with a computer for private use you will now be taxed on it, however...
What is the treatment if you were to purchase this computer, but it has been avaliable to you for a couple of years (but not taxed as a private use asset because it was exempt)?
