Re:Personal or Business Tax?
It really depends what you are likely to be doing at work - if you dont think you will ever need to do a personal tax return then business is much more useful.
However, if you arent likely to ever need either in the workplace and just need to do one of these to pass AAT then personal tax is much easier0 -

Re:Personal or Business Tax?
i did personal tax in dec and am sitting business tax tmorrow, i would recommend if your thinking of doing them to do personal tax first as this myself i felt was easier than business tax and also some of the basics learnt in personal tax do come in handy with business tax.
otherwise goodluck with your choices0 -
Re:Personal or Business Tax?
BPP recommend that if you are going on to ACCA to do the business tax and audit units and if you're planning on CIMA, to do both tax units. This is because it gets you the most exemptions.
So if you want to do ACCA, do the business tax unit. If CIMA, either will do.0 -
Re:Personal or Business Tax?
PP22 you get the same exemptions from ACCA no matter which units you do at technician. In my humble opinion - if you want to go on and do ACCA you would benefit from either or preferably both of the AAT tax units.

Re:Personal or Business Tax?
I thought that aswell and am planning to do both tax units and go onto ACCA, but that's just what I read yesterday on some AAT brochure from BPP.....0 -
Re:Personal or Business Tax?
I'm doing PTC on Friday and intend doing BTC next year. Personally - and I know there are many who are bound to disagree - but I can think of little that's more important than knowing how your own tax is calculated since it's something that affects nearly every single one of us.
This will also get you a very useful heads up into learning about payroll, an area that's seldom discussed amongst Technician students who only seem to want to go onto chartered/certified status. While payroll might not be a subject that will push you forwards in status, it could be very useful for someone wishing to become an all rounder within a small company.

Re:Personal or Business Tax?
Exactly why I want to do it Robert - I want to learn it for myself aswell as for AAT.
It's useful to know and the people always ask me about tax issues!0
