I know many of you will think what we dont want to hear we have exams but once the week is over i have somehting which some of you may wish to consider before your colleges close for summer.
In the technician stage you have a project to complete for unit 10 which is report approx 3000 words ( dont quote me on the word count ) some of you may wish to find out about this early and start it through the summer. If your college permitts this and will give you advise to start from it will help releave some of the pressure over the technician level if started early.
I myself was able to do this which many of my fellows students did not and now at the exam stage ending techncian its such a relief to know that i havent still got this to complete

Re:something to consider if thinking of progressing to technician level
Hi there
I would agree with the OP it would be great to get a head start but I think most tutors are winding down now (I know mine are!) and would not be too keen rushing to write a case study if they haven't already done it.
What am going to do is have a look at the sample unit 10 project on the AAT website and see if I can get a similar result as the model answer. At least then I willknow if I am on the right track when it comes to September.0 -

good luck to you its a personal choice on what works best for you and any kind of a start will help rather than leaving it till the last minute.
good luck with your technician level next year and your exams this week0 -

I too would agree that if you can start in the summer this is a great idea - the project is time consuming!
However, I would steer well away from the aat simulation - our college banned us from even looking at it and said we should avoid doing the aat simulation at any cost and choose a workbased project if possible.
I appreciate that many tutors are now stopping for the school year, but if you have a teacher who is willing that would be great. Fair enough they wont want to be marking over the summer, but if you discussed your idea/plan with them you could be writing your first draft over the summer for them to review in sept which would be a huge step to getting it finished
Just a thought0 -

do tutors get the summer off then?0 -
Re:something to consider if thinking of progressing to technician level
Doncaster College issued the Unit 10 Project back in January 07 so we would have a huge head start on it. Some ppl have completed it already and some havent.
I do think it relieves some pressure from next year as if we had to do the project and revise for 2 exams in Dec, then it would be very stressfull.0 -
Re:something to consider if thinking of progressing to technician level
Hi
I have just completed Technician (fingers crossed!) and we did not start our project until after Xmas this year. We were all really panicking as we were studying DFS and PCR after Xmas also and there just didnt seem enough time, however, my teacher was very good and had it all planned out how we were going to fit it all in. Although it is up to the individual to get on and get it done, plus all the homework as well..
If I can offer any advice I would suggest a work based project as they proved easier than the case study, you know your work place better than a fictional one. If you can get some information down about your company to start you off, that would be a good start, eg Company background, Staff roles etc, this was a big part of my project and covered a major part of my word count, which was 3000-4000.
But then again, you could have a nice rest over the summer and just enjoy the freedom and the sunshine, both of which will go next term when you start technician.
Good Luck! 0 -

I've decided to make a start on this project now. Prob wont get it near finished by the summer but a start it better than nothing.
I suppose its really up to the individual, i will miss the first 2 weeks of college as i am holiday and i am due to start a new job in August in practice so would like to try and get the majority of mine out of the way.0 -
