MP3 Recommendations anyone

Hi all

Just started training for a marathon (or Snickers as its now known as) and I'm looking to be entertained whilst pounding out the miles.

So can any athletes? on the forum recommend an MP3 player as I find taking out the 78's rather hard going and spinning them fast enough across a six inch nail doesn't always work.

Also can blobbyh pm the website where you download your more cost effective tunes.

Cheers everybody.

    Hello jps, two things you ask;

    1) The MP3 player; since I cannot live without music and my main MP3 player is currently broken, I'd recommend investing in a Creative Zen Stone. I bought a 1gb black version of these recently for £27.99 from what used to be known as Dixons and it's ultra tiny, lightweight and comes with a built in battery. If you're pavement pounding this will also be ideal since it uses flash memory and therefore has no moving parts compared to much larger capacity hard drive based players which will jump. It's also drag and drop (aka copy and paste) technology so infinitely easier to use than any iPod/iTunes based player which I'd personally avoid like the plague. Check out the Amazon customer reviews at;

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Creative-Zen-Stone-Player/dp/B000PD18TE

    Take claims from retailers regarding the capacity of songs per player with a pinch of salt since they're based on poor bit rate/low quality conversions with each one less than four minutes long. 1gb in my opinion will hold around 150-200 good quality MP3/WMA sound files.

    2) The dodgy websites where I download my music from are;

    http://www.gomusic.ru and http://www.mp3fiesta.com/

    I suppose in theory that Customs and Excise could come knocking on your door if you download from these sites but it's extremely unlikely and you'll save a fortune! These will also play on the Zen Stone when using the Creative Media Lite software, unlike players from other brands e.g. Philips that won't recognise the files and just skip past them.

    Regards,

    Robert

    Do people think I'm some kind of monster? You can call me blobbyh if you want Jamie, but I prefer people to use my real name which is Robert or Rob! It's only usually blobbyh when people are either telling me off or being sarcastic!

    I bought an iPod Shuffle for running, but rarely use it.

    Some of my fellow club members use them, but I find you need to be focussed on the traffic.

    The daughter of a friend downloaded her music and it was all on the theme of running - or getting somewhere.

    The small Sony Walkman (pen shaped) ones are excellent. But I would reccommend nothing other than an iPod. The Nanos are great, and are also flash memory. And they are simple to use.

    I get most of my MP3s through Soulseek

    Doesn't that look like just another dodgy peer to peer filesharing site like Limewire, Chris?

    At least if I was ever traced back by the authorities, I could plead ignorance that I'd made some small form of monetary contribution towards Robbie Willams drug fuelled career meltdown...

    Well of course I'm not advocating that anyone should use file sharing software to download copyrighted material ;)

    And neither would I!

    I only ever use Limewire as a last resort to download music where I can't get it 'legally' anywhere else. And if that's the case, the chances are the artists are probably either dead or washed up old has-beens who wouldn't know anyway!
