Employer paying for scholarship/doctorate

If an employee (paid via PAYE scheme) was to undertake training for a doctorate/LLM (Masters), would the employer be able to claim the training costs/course fees as an allowable deduction against his income?

Also, would their be any BIK implications for the employee?
