Help please - New Job advice needed

Hi,

I have just started a new job and am currently reconciling the payroll journals and have found that the previous person never entered any of the PAYE, NI and Gross wage entries for the year, only the net pays.

Do you think that the best thing to do is enter each of the corresponding entries as opening balances?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    hi there

    possible silly question but have they been paying over the NI & PAYE to HMRC?(if not you would have heard about it by now!!)
    so where have those payments been entered? did the prev person do bank reqs? as they wouldnt have been able to balance if they hadnt of entered them?
    Has the previous person been using a control account?

    If they havent been entered at all have the accounts been audited yet? as the auditors will definately pick up if they havent!!! If you havent been audited yet I would call them.

    just a few thoughts!
