Hi Guys,
My client runs a domestic cleaning business and wants me to do the bookeeping for her. I have just finished my technical exams this june and have never ventured out commercially b4.All I need is some guide lines and some excel templates as rough guides.
Currently she has loads of bank statements,invoices, and receipts laying on the floor in a room assigned to be the office.There is no filling system in existence and currently no bookeeping records. only incomplete records exist.
Guys, I need tips and excel templates to get the ball rolling.What filing system should I setup.
Can I use Sage or stick with excel.

Also posted elsewhere in response to a similar question;
If its a brand new start up business why not invest in software dedicated to the accounting task rather than devising what I can easily imagine to be a horrendously complicated Excel system? While I assume Excel to be adequate for standard T accounting, I can picture it differently for posting journals, asset registers, bank accounts, balance sheets, P&L's etc and it going pear shaped unless it's been designed tight as a drum.
I know Quickbooks has its detractors but it's what my company uses and I found it exceptionally easy to pick up even from scratch. Even better, it's not that expensive and would probably cause you less stress than trying to modify something in Excel and it throwing multiple errors throughout the system!

Well, seeing as the first one is only £40 and ideal for a small business, I'd be surprised if there's anything much cheaper or easier...0
