Hi Guys
I'm after a bit of help please.
I'm MAAT and part Qual CIMA so I can handle a set of accounts but...
My husband runs his own business as well as being full time employed. His first tax year ended Apr07 and i've but together a set of accounts but I'm worried that I won't do his tax return justice because i'm not aware of all the allowances. So I'm going to look for an accountant to take care of his tax but i've no idea what to ask for and how much they are likely to charge. We're in Warwickshire. Any advice?

Re:Tax accountant - What to look out for
I think whoever you use is still going to do a year end, TPL etc plus your tax return so you are probably looking at the best end of £400.0 -
Re:Tax accountant - What to look out for
The main tax qualifications are ATT (Association of Taxation Technician) & CTA (Chartered Tax Advisor). If you are wanting a qualified person to deal with the preparation of your husband's tax return then that is what to look for.
As you are MAAT and part qualified CIMA and It was me preparing the tax return I would just be double checking your fundimentals and preparing the tax return on your Trading, Profit & Loss account (no need to reproduce the information again).
Making the required adjustments, preparing the return and asking some queries, I would estimate 2/3 hrs chargeable time.
Obviously, everyone's peoples circumstances are different so this time could go up as well as down.

Re:Tax accountant - What to look out for
A normal firm of accountants such as Chartered/Chartered Certified would be able to do them for you.
ATT and CIoT qualified's tend to work in these types of practice - though a normal chartered/certified accountant would be more than competent to undertake such work.
Kind regards

Use the 'Find an accountant' link on the AAT home page and use the search function to find a member in practice in your area.0
