The AAT Intermediate is a Level 3 qualification, so it is equivalent to an A Level. However, a pass is worth 160 UCAS tariff points, which is equivalent to 2 grade C's at A Level.

    Hi there,

Also, 160 UCAS points equals 40 more points than an 'A' grade A Level according to Wikipedia.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    Hi

The problem with comparing NVQs (and other vocational qualifications) to GCSEs, A-Levels and degrees is that the level given to a vocational qualification is based on what level of study the qualification is pitched at and not the size of the qualification.

Level 3 of the framework is at A-Level standard, however, not all qualifications at level 3 include as much study as is required for an A-level (some have less, some have more). Also, vocational qualifications at each level don't all have the same amount of study in them. Infact, some NVQ's require more or less study than other NVQs of the same level. Currently in my spare time I'm studying for a level 2 qualifcation for personal interests. Level 2 is GCSE level, but the qualification only contains about 1/5 of the amount that a GCSE does.

I think its fair to say Intermediate is equivalent to approx 2 A-Levels but you also have to consider that if you were to apply to a uni or a job, they may or may not consider it on the same par as 2 A-levels, expecially when you consider it is only 1 subject.

I was wondering I have A Level Accounts at Grade B
    and AAT Intermediate.

How many ucas points would I obtain.

I agree with Neil. Some will call me sad (and I've posted this similarly before) but from working out the numbers, I don't think you can even remotely compare the NVQ3;AAT Intermediate with A' levels.

I did four A' levels when I was younger and over the course of two years, must have spent approx. 560 hours to get a pass for each A' level.

Compare this with my NVQ3;Intermediate which I spent approx. 275 hours on and is supposedly worth two A' levels.

So as Neil said, it's very hard to compare the two qualifications on a like for like basis.
