I've just come out of a mediation meeting.

Two members of staff share an office and have been having 'problems' when they both make phone calls at the same time.

One of them talks very loudly, making it difficult for the other to hear their phone conversation, but would not agree to waiting until the first person has finished their call as they 'don't think its necessary because I can hear the person I'm talking to perfectly well'.

After further heated discussion it transpires that the reason they talk so loud when they are on the phone is because they put their finger in the other ear 'because you talking on the phone means I can't concentrate on my call and I need to raise my voice to hear myself talk'

Oh thank goodness it's Friday!!!

I sympathise. Some people here seem to think they're in competition with each other.

Is it just human nature?
