Hi, I have just passed my AAT intermediate and I have a place at university to study an accountancy and finance degree. I'm thinking of instead going onto AAT Technician. Im not sure what to do? Is it better to do a degree or AAT technician and get a job in accounts on the side?? Please Help
Thanks

I would say that given the expense of doing a degree, and the time involved, you'd be better off doing the Technician stage, getting a job in accounts and then choosing either CIPFA, CIMA or ACCA afterwards.0 -

Totally agree with wisewood0 -
Re:Please help me!
I remember there was an article in the AAT magazine a few months ago, that estimated those students who took the workplace route to accountancy were approx. £55,000 better off compared to their university counterparts.
You'd also get vital real life skills and if you're very lucky and can break into a large company, a four or five year working headstart on those who've never left the classroom.

Hi thanx everyone for your advice! its really helps. Just one more question. How does one go about getting a position in accounts while doing technician? Registering with agencies?
Many Thanx

Re:Please help me!
As per my reply to your other thread - speak to one of the bigger accounts agencies, based on your qualifications and exerience they will give you an idea what you can expect to find.
Even temp work would be a good start.0 -

Hi There
If I were you, I would try to get the Technician level qualification and then try to find an employer who will take you on and pay for you to go CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA etc
I would not contemplate doing the degree as it is just too costly now.0
