Hi there,
Just completed Intermediate Level(Foundation seems so long ago now!)and due to start Technician in September.
Wanted to know some recommendations for text books, what have people found best?
I ususally go with BPP but i want to know what others think?
Thanks,
Ben.

Re:Technician recommended reading lists
For me BPP is simply the best. OSbourne is not bad either.

We only used Osbourne books and they were ok!0 -
Re:Technician recommended reading lists
I found two books shortly before my exams and I wish so much I had found them long before!
These books are 'teach yourself' for non finance people, so all the terms are in laymans terms!
"Finance for Non Finance Managers"
I found this covered all areas of AAT including ratios and explanations of, variances, and even from the very start as to explaining debits and credits. A very good book and one that would have been better off having at the start of the course rather than at the end! Never the less, very very useful!
"Understanding Tax for Small Businesses" - perfect for AAT technician for anyone doing the BTC element. Covers sole traders / partnerships, small companies. Has a half decent section on cessation
Both books very worthwhile in addition to the textbooks we get that can get over complicated at times!

Thanks everyone!
I'm a bit of a BPP fan personally as i used the 'pass cards' series of notes as a revision tool for FRA and it was great.
Zoe302, who are the authors of the books you mentioned?
Ben.

Re:Technician recommended reading lists
I can highly recommend bpp books, I used them for all my technician studies. I did home studying and therefore had no back up from college or a distance learning institution, but found that the bpp books were clear and easy to follow.
All the best with your studies.0 -
Re:Technician recommended reading lists
We used Osbourne books and found them quite good for all the subjects, but not quite go good on PEV/PCR, which has a couple of chapters which should be avoided at all costs!
I brought the BPP passcards, but found them really hard to use, but the Kaplan passcards were great. Not as much detail, but the layout was brilliant. I would really recommend them.

Re:Technician recommended reading lists
My college provided BPP course books but I bought Osbourne books for myself. At Intermediate I found the Osbournes head and shoulders above BPP. For Technician, while I still, by and large, prefered Osbourne, the difference between the two wasn't that large and I'm not sure the Osbourne books are really worth the extra cost.
However, I think the Osbourne Unit 10 book is considerably better than the BPP equivalent and I'm with Gillianne in finding the PEV/PCR book not up to the usual Osbourne standard and really quite poor in places.

Ben,
The Finance one which is the most useful is by Philip Ramsden. Its on amazon for 6.99 which is good as I paid 9.99 for it locally.
The tax one is by Sarah Deeks - around £6.50 I think I saw it for.

Are Osbourne books any good then0 -
Re:Technician recommended reading lists
I found Osborne good for foundation, not as good (But still sufficient) for intermediate.
Oh, and (In my opinion of course) the practice skills tests and exams in the Osborne books at intermediate were worse than useless, and actually put a lot of us off (Some were ready to quit - or so they said anyway), but of course, downloading past papers to practice on, rather than use the book ones always is the favourite option - again, my opinion
