Payroll sick pay

I am new to payroll. Can you advise me, please?
A small employer pays an employee 24 hours per week (4 days at 6 hours). The employee takes a day off sick one week, then a different day the next week. Is the employer obliged to pay the two days missed, and when does SSP kick in?
Thanks for any advice.

Re:Payroll sick pay
Payment would depend on their Written Terms of Employment.
SSP doesn't normally start until the 4th day of absence.

Re:Payroll sick pay
Most employment contracts I have dealt with (which isn't a huge number by any means) states that pay whilst sick is at the discretion of the employer.
Others will state that there is no entitlement to pay whilst sick. Very few will state a positive entitlement to pay whilst sick.
If the employer does not wish to make payment in this case then check that this is standard practice. If everybody would normally receive pay whilst sick at the company then this may give rise to an entitlement.0
