Has anyone done the ACA fast track. I was looking into this and not sure if I should do this or CIMA. Any advice would be good. I have completed AAT and am a full member. What exams would I have to take in ACA is it two top ups and three exams at professional level ?. Anyone's views would be good

Re:ACA Fast Track
Hi
The ACA fast track has changed slightly due to a new ACA qualification being introduced. The ACA papers for which an AAT could do a top up have now been split in to two papers on the new ACA, AAT would grant exemption form the first of each depending on your options.
Have a look at the ICAEW website for full information.
If you are considering CIMA also, are you working in industry?

Re:ACA Fast Track
Hi Neil
I am interested in furthering my qualifications also, but aged 50 now and wonder if it is necessary. I too am a full AAT member in practice in Ltd Co. Sole practitioner. I too have tried to work out the best qualification to take, as my clients are builders, publicans, mortgage brokers etc, either sole, Ltd or ptnrships, can you advise on the most relevant qualification for me. Thanks Rita

Re:ACA Fast Track
Hi
If you want to pursue one of the chartered qualifications you need to look at their work experience requirements and if they'll allow you to practice whilst you are a student/without their practicing certificate. ACCA won’t let you do much more than trial balance, payroll or VAT without their practising certificate. Also, self employed work experience won't count towards that required for membership. Check out the ACCA website for full details. I’m not sure where CIMA stands on these issues (despite studying CIMA, in industry), though I do believe it is a little more relaxed. ACA would require you to work under a training contract unless you only wanted to achieve the Professional Accountancy Certificate (which would only make you ACA part-qualified).
The Association of Taxation Technicians is one option and apparently this is a popular choice for AAT self employed members. The ACCA offer a Diploma in Financial Management, it’s aimed at non-financial managers but would cover more advanced aspects of financial management.
