AAT gives you exemptions from the first three papers - F1, F2 and F3.

How long would it take to complete the ACCA if you are fully AAT qualified? Is the ACA fast track a quicker route to becomming a chartered accountant?

From what I have heard at least 3years. I know one person who took 7 because the workload of study is completely different to anything experienced before.

Rather than looking at them in terms of time, it's probably easier to comprehend if you look at the papers you'd have to sit.

If you were to do the ACCA from the start you'd sit the following modules:
    FUNDAMENTALS (nine papers in total)
    Knowledge
    F1 Accountant in Business
    F2 Management Accounting
    F3 Financial Accounting
    Skills
    F4 Corporate and Business Law
    F5 Performance Management
    F6 Taxation
    F7 Financial Reporting
    F8 Audit and Assurance
    F9 Financial Management

    PROFESSIONAL (five papers in total)
    Essentials
    P1 Professional Accountant
    P2 Corporate Reporting
    P3 Business Analysis
    Options (two to be completed)
    P4 Advanced Financial Management
    P5 Advanced Performance Management
    P6 Advanced Taxation
    P7 Advanced Audit and Assurance

As mentioned above, completion of the AAT qualification gives you exemption of F1, F2 and F3, which would leave you 11 modules to pass.

If you were to do the ICAEW (ACA) qualification from the start you'd do the following modules:
    PROFESSIONAL STAGE
    Knowledge
    Business and Finance
    Management Information
    Accounting
    Law
    Assurance
    Principles of Taxation

    Application
    Business Strategy
    Financial Management
    Financial Accounting
    Financial Reporting
    Audit and Assurance
    Taxation

    ADVANCED STAGE
    Technical Integration-Business Reporting
    Technical Integration-Business Change
    Case Study

Under the AAT-ACA fast track, The AAT Accounting Qualification automatically entitles students to credit for the Business and Finance and Management Information knowledge modules.
If you passed Drafting Financial Statements (accounting practice, industry and commerce), you get credit for the Accounting knowledge module, and you can sit a top-up paper for the Financial Accounting application module.
If you passed Implementing Audit Procedures you get credit for the Assurance knowledge module.
If you passed both Preparing Business Taxation Computations and Preparing Personal Taxation Computations you get credit for the Principles of Taxation knowledge module.
