edited June 18 in AAT student discussion
I have finished technician but thought I would supplement my knowledge by doing the payroll exams. Self teach just read the books no course or simulations. I bought a BBP book which says for exams until dec 2008. The detail of amounts paid for maternity, minimum wage etc are as at 2007 and are clearly different now. In the exam I am doing for DNP in June do you think the exams will refer to the old rates in the book or will use rates etc as they are today, ie the 10% tax band gone etc. I admit I am getting in knots with tax tables and this where I miss a tutor but will plough ahead. Thanks.

    DNP exam

    Hi

I have done the same - bought BPP book to take exam, and logged on to ask the same question !! I have now phoned the AAT who confirmed the DNP exam will be on the 07-08 basis, ie as in the study guide.

I have just started a payroll job, after not finding a worthwhile accounts position ( have escaped pensions admin which was my aim!) It is confusing looking at different tax table methods and rates at work, and having to study and be examined on a different out of date basis. I have attended a foundation payroll course a few years ago, so how to use the tax tables came back to me without too much trouble. They are confusing if you haven't worked in payroll, especially with old SR basis, I suggest doing as many old exam papers as you can, although I don't know how many are relevant to the 07-08 tax basis. Good luck.

Hi HMA, good stuff. I feel once I crack the tax tables I will be ok. I can eat up the short answers on past papers so hopefully I will pass. It has been very useful doing it all. good luck with your exam.

    hi,

Interesting views on changes in the rules and how they affect examinations. Actually, having just taken the ATT exams I have to agree, it is very odd working with one set of rules but being examined on another but I queried this and was told, quite rightly, that pretty much all of the examination bodies have to do the same given the preparation timetable and all the quality assurance proceses they have to go through.

Its irritating, but I think it is inevitable.
