Attending my first branch event

I've been a full member for a little over a year now, but haven't been to any of the branch events yet. I'm considering taking the plunge by heading to the Northampton branch's networking event next Thursday (the 4th). I'm actually at university in Norwich at the moment, but I'd like to relocate after graduation as I have family and friends in Northants/Cambs area. I thought going to an AAT branch event would be a good way of introducing myself to the local accounting community and, given that the speaker is to talk about networking, it seemed like to good an opportunity to miss.
Does anyone have any advice on attending these events?
