Hi

I have just started a new job in an accountancy firm and the company uses Auditman on the computer. Can anyone tell me how old this is, as it is on DOS, and also what the best packages are for auditing purposes, because to me, this seems like its from the stone age!

Also, can anyone tell me, the basis method of auditing. I mean, what are the basics for what you have to do bearing in mind that these clients have small turnovers. Is there a quick way of doing it? In this job, it seems that they do final accounts in such a roundabout manner. Thanks.

Auditman.....
Auditman is about 16 years old. I had thought it was defunct because of Year 2000 problems, but obviously not.

It is a bit dated and did have a problem in that it was possible to input a one sided journal whereupon you had to send a disc to the programmers for them to sort it out.

We use Sage Final Accounts and I have heard good reports on Iris.

Re. audit of small clients: if they are v. small. t/over less than 250,000 it is reasonable to design your own audit program. Consider the B/S captions and ask how you can gather evidence about the figures so as to convince you of their reasonableness, any larger and I would use PCAS. Bear in mind the audit exemption limits.0
