Hi all!!

I know there's not many people on here doing Payroll but fingers crossed!!

Has anyone done their simulations for DNP? I did all 3 on Monday and just wondered if anyone had any opinions on them? There was a question on changes in maternity for 2007 that i thought was pretty harsh!!! And the one on form P38S too! If my answers turn out to be acceptable then there must be a God

Good Luck to everyone with the exam!

    Hi Rachey,

No I am not sitting my exams, I have just finished the ATT ones and I think that's my lot!

I just wanted to say that any question about maternity is usually harsh and the 2007 changes are old hat now compared to the October changes to employment rights during leave, more changes for April 2009 with the EU consulting on europe wide changes and further consultation on rights here in the UK ready for 2010. It is an ever changing feature of payroll/HR. Oh, and if I remember correctly P38S's are due for a big change by April 2010 as well.

But then, that's why we choose payroll as a career because its a bit like the weather, if you don't like what you see, wait five minutes, it'll soon change!

    Good luck next month.

    Thanks for your reply!!

There was a daft question on there that even now at home i still cant find the answer!

It said something along the lines of:

'Sue has used all her holidays and needs time off to look after her 2 year old son, what leave would she be entitled to, if any?'

    My answer was Dependancy Leave.

    It then said:

'If suddenly her son became ill and she had to look after him, what leave would she then be entitled to?'

I made this answer up.... I said 'Extended Dependancy Leave!!!!'

I know that is probably incorrect but for the life of me, i cannot find any of the answers!

    Your help is much appreciated.

    Rachey,

Oh, I agree, they were a bit nasty!

The first one, as suggested, parental leave and if you look up the maternity and parental leave regulations 1999 you should find it. The second one is an interesting one, its a right to unpaid time off to deal with a family emergency (The Employment Relations Act 1999).

I have to say, though, that I prefer your titles, they are much more informative.

As an aside, I recently wrote a training course for someone on absences and even after all my many years in payroll I was surprised at the number of different leave types, with and without pay which an employee can have. I ended up surprised that we ever manage to get people to work!
