VAT Online - Registering as an agent

I just want confirmation this is correct, I have spoken to the VAT helpline to register as an agent to be able to complete VAT returns online as an agent and they said I will not be able to as I am not VAT registered myself.

How do you get round this? Use the companies own login details?

Thanks for any advice

Louise

yes, unfortunately you'll have to set up login details for each seperate client. Someone said on here a while ago that HMRC are addressing this so hopefully soon we can have them on our client lists like regular clients.

    Yep, it's ludicrous.

The thinking at the time was that it was a 'security measure'

    Hmm, I don't have a Ltd Co, but I can complete a CT600
    I don't have a partnership, but I can complete a SA800
I'm not VAT registered, so it's really unsafe for me to do a VAT return.... :001_unsure:

They will be sorting it out by the time it becomes compulsory to file online, so don't hold your breath.

Til then, you have to use client's login details. Not strictly the best security proceedure (see the irony there?) but that's what HMRC say to do.

Just smile, nod and agree... :thumbup1::thumbdown:
