The data at the beginning tells us that there's wastage:
'1 in every 200 units is rejected by quality control'
so that has to be built in production to get the number of 'good' units needed.0 -
1/200 is as you rightly identified 0.5%
I would expect the current examiner to use much bigger wastage % rates- they are more realistic
- they enable him to quickly see which candates are working out the wastage correctly a lot more easily (1/200 and 1/199 are very close together but 20/80 and 20/100 are easily identiable as different)

thanks Sandy
I am even more confused now, as at the beginning of the answer the wastage of 50 was removed, then put back on again. why would this happen.
Thanks

Sadly, there are a lot of misleading model answers
I have an answer available if you email me with the following (exactly) as the subject:

ive found that these questions you have to look at production isonly at 95% beacause off the wastage ... so if they need 950 good ones, then you need to produce 1000 ?
tok a while for that to set in !0 -
i get that bit mark, it is just, you take off the wastage, work stuff out, then add it back on again.
