This is a copy of an email my sister sent me....made me laugh anyway!!! :001_tt2:

Something to brighten up a gloomy Saturday morning.....from yesterday's Bristol Evening Post:

Outside Bristol Zoo is the car park, with spaces for 150 cars and 8 coaches. It has been manned 6 days a week for 23 years by the same charming and very polite car park attendant with the ticket machine. The charges are £1. per car and £5. per coach.

On Monday 1 June, he did not turn up for work.

Bristol Zoo management phoned Bristol City Council to ask them to send a replacement parking attendant.

The Council said "That car park is your responsibility."

The Zoo said "The attendant was employed by the City Council... wasn't he?"

The Council said "What attendant?"

Gone missing is a man who has been taking daily the car park fees amounting to about £400. per day for the last 23 years... no tax, no-one knows who he is................!

Almost sad to say this 'cos it's a good yarn, but it's an urban myth! Sorry!

    Oh Robert....

    Spoil sport!!!!!!!

Still I did kinda think it was too good to be true, but knowing how the councils/large organisations run things (or not) I did think it could be possible!

And who's heard the one when we were kids about the young couple out in the forest late at night, news comes on the radio about an escaped lunatic, car won't start, bloke wanders off, never returns, woman hears tapping from roof of car, the police turn up, blue flashing lights and all, they tell her "Get out of the car, don't turn around whatever you do..."? Well, we know the rest don't we?

Happened in my local forest too. True. Love that story.

But... but... it was on Radio 4's The News Quiz.
It has to be true (the Bristol Zoo thing)!
Why would Sandi Toksvig lie to me?

When I worked in the Centre for Applied Language Studies at Reading University, the language teaching centre next door was being run by a woman with a fake PhD claiming money for courses and students that didn't exist. She got away with it for quite a while too.

    Linky goodness
